55,000 Runners And 30 Wheel Chair Competitors Battle For $370,000

An aggregate of 55,000 nearby and outside runners and 30 Wheelchair competitors will fight for the different money prizes in question, as the second Access Bank Lagos City Marathon holds toward the beginning of today.

Coordinators of the occasion reported yesterday in Lagos that among the contenders are 64 world class proficient competitors and 102 Nigerians. Talking at a gathering proclaiming the occasion yesterday at Eko Hotel and Suites, Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, who was spoken to by the Chairman, Lagos Sports Commission, Deji Tinubu said that today's marathon would be not quite the same as the principal release.


“Everything have been put in place to make this second edition bigger and better. All the agencies and people involved to make it a huge success have been fully mobolised. We want to use the marathon to show to world that Lagos is safe and a choice destination for sports, tourism and entertainment.” Ambode said.

Leader of Athletic Federation of Nigeria (AFN), Chief Solomon Ogba said that prize cash for consequent releases of the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon would be expanded to challenge the Dubai marathon. “We attempted to increase the prize money for this year but the dollar rate was so high,” Ogba said.

He said that the President of Athletics South Africa, Qatar, Oman and Mozambique are now in Lagos to be a piece of today's marathon race. The Chief Executive Officer of NILAYO Sports Management Ltd, the official expert to the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, Bukola Olopade, said that a portion of the omissions saw in a year ago's occasion had been dealt with. “We will organize a marathon event that every Nigerian, particularly Lagosians will be proud of,” Olopade said.


General Manager of the Marathon, Yusuf Ali unveiled that more than 300,000 jug water had been accommodated the competitors, including that 20 water stations and nine refreshment base are organized along the course for the runners.

An aggregate prize cash of $370,000, made up of $185,000 for the men runners and $185,000 for ladies is up for snatch in today's occasion. Those in the Wheelchair classification will take N1,000,000, N750,000 and N500,000.
