EFCC Recovers $9.8 Million From Ex NNPC GMD



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), has kept on confining the previous Group Managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Andrew Yakubu, three days subsequent to recuperating a whooping $9.8million from his living arrangement in Kaduna.


Representative to the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, disclosed to The Guardian that as at 4:00pm yesterday, Yakubu was all the while being held by agents of the commission.

It would be reviewed that Yakubu had answered to the EFCC office in Kano on Wednesday, February 8 and has since been held in detainment. He may need to spend the end of the week in care.

Uwujaren said the immense whole was recouped amid an unexpected assault of Yakubu's home after a knowledge report. The assault was led on February 3, 2017.


Uwujaren educated that £74,000 was additionally found in a flame resistant safe in the house situated in the ghetto of Sabon Tasha in Kaduna town.
“On arrival at the facility, the caretaker of the house, one Bitrus Yakubu, a younger brother to Andrew Yakubu, disclosed that both the house and the safe where the money was found belonged to his brother, Andrew Yakubu. When the safe was opened, it was discovered that it contained the sum of $9.7 million and another sum of £74,000.





On February 8, 2017, Andrew Yakubu reported to the Commission’s Zonal office in Kano and made a statement, wherein he admitted ownership of the recovered money, claiming it was a gift from unnamed persons. He is currently assisting with the investigation,” he said.
