The Lagos State Government on Friday started the obliteration of the three structures gutted by flame on Jan. 12 at the well known Balogun Market in Central Lagos. The destruction was being completed by a firm, Blackrock Construction Company. Fire gutted the structures lodging around 100 shops and obliterated merchandise worth a large number of naira. Authorities of the organization who addressed NAN on state of secrecy said that it was the administration that gave mandate for the structures to be obliterated.

The leader of the demolition group who did not state how long the destruction would take, said that the work would set aside some opportunity to wrap up. Mrs Uju Agunna, a merchant who sold garments in one of the shops gutted, disclosed to NAN that she would lease a similar place at whatever time the shops were modified.

“I will like to go back to my shop. I have been in this Balogun for over 15 years so it is difficult for me to go and rent somewhere else. We hope that when the demolition exercise is completed the owners can start building. But now I am sharing a shop with my friend as you can see. Agunna said. I will like to go back to my shop.
