A Nigerian lady brought forth a baby girl on a migrant rescue boat on the way to Italy on Tuesday morning, March 21. The team on the Aquarius transport had safeguarded 946 individuals and was flying out to Italy when the mother, Taiwo, was in labour.
The birth went easily and the infant named Mercy, measuring a solid 3.7kg (8 ounces), landed in Catania with her mom later on Tuesday. Italian specialists and help associations were close by to help the safeguarded migrants.
"Giving birth to a child is one of the most intimate moments in a woman's life, and she had to go through it on a boat surrounded by complete strangers”, said midwife Elizabeth Ramlow, who was aboard the boat. See more photos below.
