After a previous attacked which left 22 people dead, a prison in Niger was attacked by gunmen on Monday for the purpose freeing some of the Islamic militant, which yielded no result and also left one of the raiders dead. Mohamed Bazoum, Minister of interior confirmed in a phone, that one of the attackers wearing a suicide vest was killed. They are still on the search for the remaining attackers.
"We heard sustained gunfire coming from the prison just as we were going for (early morning) prayers," the director of the Koutoukale school, Abdoul Razak Ali, said by telephone. Jihadist group Boko Haram - some of whose fighters are held in Koutoukale - has launched raids from Niger's southern neighbour Nigeria. An Amnesty International official who visited the prison in June said it held around 550 inmates, more than double the prison's capacity.
Most of the prisoners were suspected Boko Haram members, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb and other militant groups
